CHINA HOLIDAYS

ABOUT THE ITINERARY

Tap into China’s extraordinary cultural heritage on our captivating luxury China holiday itinerary featuring the attractions of Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai.

The adventure begins with the imperial splendour of Beijing, gateway to world-famous landmarks like Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven. You’ll tour the old Hutong area by rickshaw, and soak in incredible views from the peaceful Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China.

You move onto to Xi’an, China’s ancient political and cultural centre, where you can trace its imperial legacy in its many monuments and archaeological sites – most notably the wondrous Terracotta Army. From Xi’an, you fly southwest to the vibrant city of Shanghai, where the atmospheric French Quarter and grand 1920s architecture of the Bund sits alongside today’s shiny glass towers.

Day 1-5

BEIJING

Arrive in Beijing, China’s sprawling capital, where you’ll be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel in the historic hutong area of ‘Old Beijing’. You’ll have the rest of the day to relax at your leisure.

The following day you’ll visit the famous Tiananmen Square where stands the Monument to the People’s Heroes, Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, the Museum of Revolution and the Great Hall of the People. You’ll continue to Beijing’s Forbidden City, an extensive palace complex and former residence of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Explore the grand halls, courtyards and rooms before taking a rickshaw tour of the Hutong area. On day four you’ll visit the Temple of Heaven, an exquisite example of Ming architecture, where emperors would perform prayer ceremonies for a good harvest. Later you’ll visit the Yonghe Temple, before concluding the evening with a food tour of the Hutongs by tuk-tuk.

On your final day in Beijing, you’ll visit what is China’s most celebrated attraction – the Great Wall of China. Originally built to defend against various nomadic groups, some sections of the wall date back over 2,000 years. Your tour includes the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall which is generally less crowded. Finish at Beijing’s Summer Palace with its beautiful lakes and gardens.

“FAULTLESS AND FUN”
We’ve just returned from a Danube cruise with Douglas Skeggs and Joanna Worsley, with a few days in Vienna beforehand – all brilliantly overseen by Emily. From meet and greet at the airport to every detail on board the Amadeus Cara, the organisation was seamless. We’re already looking forward to our next Escorted Tour with 91ºÚÁÏÍø.

“EVERY TRIP EXCELLENT – AND MORE TO COME”
I’ve been on several small group holidays with 91ºÚÁÏÍø and every one has been outstanding. My most recent trip in February was no exception – expertly organised, responsive to questions, and full of memorable experiences. The itineraries are well thought out, the hotels top-notch, and the group sizes just right. Their tour leaders are knowledgeable, supportive and great company. I haven’t looked elsewhere since discovering Ultimate – and I’m already planning my next.
