Some 50 air miles from Port Hardy in the depths of the Great Bear Rainforest, Great Bear Lodge opens a window into the life of the majestic grizzly. Seaplane is the only way to reach this self-contained floating lodge where all guides are wildlife biologists or ecologists. The lodge itself is small and intimate, with just eight snug rooms surrounded by wooden viewing decks. The common areas include a library, sitting room and dining area where hearty meals are served throughout the day.

From cubs play-fighting in the shallows of a stream to the sudden snap of huge jaws as an adult grizzly plucks a leaping salmon out of the air, you may already have an idea of the grizzly bear viewing you’ll enjoy at Great Bear Lodge – part of the BBC series ‘Secrets of the Living Planet’ was filmed here. Two bear viewing sessions are scheduled each day, both from hidden viewing platforms on land and from boats on the river. The lodge is in a prime location for the salmon run in autumn.

While Grizzly Bear viewing programmes are the order of the day, the area is also famed for its sightings of black bears, otters, mink and even grey wolves and mountain lions. Not to mention birds ranging from ducks and loons to occasional golden eagles, kestrels, goshawks and harriers.

“SEAMLESSLY ORGANISED, TRULY UNFORGETTABLE”
The itinerary was spot on. Claire really listened and understood the kind of holiday I wanted – from the hotels to the pace of the trip. The team on the ground were exceptional: friendly, efficient, and always one step ahead, helping with everything from flight check-ins to tax-free procedures at the end. The guides were knowledgeable and genuinely helpful. I had an amazing time. Thank you!

“FLAWLESS, AGAIN”
This is the third time I’ve used TUTC. The service, as before, was flawless. Aside from putting in place all the major details of a complex trip to Japan, Dan at TUTC nailed every detail: train tickets were for seats with large luggage space (very important in Japan, as we discovered); a mobile internet wifi was included; together with a pre-charged use-pretty-much-anywhere travel card (again, important – Japan has multiple transport companies). For any kind of complex trip I won’t go anywhere else.

“INDIA AT ITS MOST INCREDIBLE”
Unbelievably brilliant from start to finish. 91ºÚÁÏÍø gave us complete flexibility while tailoring the trip to our personal preferences. Communication was excellent throughout, and the in-country team in India was super-efficient at every stage. The quality of the experience was exceptional – and the value for money, remarkable. From expert naturalists to thrilling wildlife encounters (tigers, leopards, 140 species of birds), awe-inspiring temples, the Taj Mahal, scenic walks and warm, welcoming people – not to mention the fantastic curry – it was a truly superb holiday. “Ultimate†really is “91ºÚÁÏÍøâ€!
