THE CAMP CONSISTS OF A THREE-STORY BARN BUILDING
Headquarters of the renowned AfriCat Foundation, a stay at the family-owned Okonjima Plains Camp promises you some outstanding big cat sightings.
The camp lies within the protected wilderness of the Okonjima Nature Reserve – a 200 square kilometre expanse of rolling plains, riverine thickets and rocky outcrops where you’ll find cheetah, brown hyena and a healthy population of leopard. Stay at least two nights to enjoy encounters with a variety of other wildlife and endemic birds on both game drives and guided bush walks. You can also spend time exploring self-guided nature trails and learning more about the work of the AfriCat Foundation. After an active day, enjoy a drink in the lounge or cool off by the sparkling swimming pool.
The camp itself is made up of a three-tier barn structure, a nod to Okonjima’s cattle farming history, with an expansive dining and lounge area with stunning views of the surrounding plains through floor-to-ceiling windows. Of the 24 rooms, the aptly named ‘View Rooms’ are the largest, with generously sized verandas overlooking the grassy plains. Each room has between 20 and 70 metres of space around it to ensure total privacy, as well as lovely ensuite bathrooms.
