DAMARALAND CAMP, DAMARALAND

INCREDIBLE PANORAMAS ACROSS THE DESERT LANDSCAPE

The upscale Damaraland Camp combines eco-friendly accommodation with astonishing desert views in Namibia’s remote Torra Conservancy, an area known for its desert-dwelling elephants.

Damaraland Camp was born of a partnership between Wilderness Safaris and the local Torra Conservancy, and is predominantly run by the local community. Designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible, the camp’s 10 adobe-style tents offer ensuite bathrooms, walk-in dressing spaces and large decks useful for admiring the striking surroundings.

Activities include guided mountain hikes and day and night game drives in the Huab River Valley, a chance to spot desert-adapted elephants, black rhino, spotted hyena, springbok, gemsbok and lion. Birding is also rewarding here with over 240 recorded species in the area, whilst expert guides are on hand to take you to see the region’s ancient rock art and unique geological formations. Authentic cultural visits, meanwhile, provide a fascinating insight into the rich heritage of the local community.

Back at camp, the thatched living area with its bar and swimming pool is a superb place to relax in between activities. In the evenings, you can unwind in the outdoor ‘boma’ area around a crackling campfire, listening to the sounds of the desert as you admire the starry night sky.
